•  Dr Chandana Sarma along with a group of students of the Department of Anthropology conducted field work in Manipur Village near Morigaon Town from 15.3.15 to 20th March 2015.  

  • TDC 5th Semester Anthropology major students conducted a field study in  Hajo on 30th August 2015. The study was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Suparna  Barua.

  •   TDC 5th Semester Anthropology Elective students went to a Khasi village called Diwon in  Umden area  in Ri-Bhoi  Distict, Meghalaya  for field study on 7th and 8th September 2015. They had mainly studied some aspects of Khasi material culture.  The study was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Upala Barua.


  • Department of Anthropology, Cotton College organised a Talk on significance of field work tradition in Anthropology on 3rd October 2015 at  KBR Hall, Cotton College. Noted Anthropologist and former Vice-Chancellor, Arunachal University Professor Annada C. Bhagabati shared with students, former students, teachers and research scholars,  his vast and colourful field  experience as an anthropologist  spanning half a century  through his  lecture , entitled befittingly as “ Strictly on an  Autobiographical Mode: Fifty Years of Experience in Anthropological Field work”.

    The talk was followed by an interactive session in which young students, researchers and teachers had avidly participated.   
  • A Departmental seminar was  held on 12th October 2015 from 12.45 pm in the premises of Department of Anthropology on the topic “How to Write  Research Papers” with active participation of  students, teachers and research scholars of the Department. Dr. Tiluttoma Baruah, Dr Suparna Barua, Dr Chandana Sarma , Dr Rustam Singh and Ms Teresa of the Department acted as resource persons .


6th Professor Bhuban Mohan Das Memorial Lecture was held on 22nd January, 2016.

Dr. Jonali Devi, HOD Anthropology, Cotton College welcomed the guests while Dr. Chandana Sarma compared the event. Dr. Manjumala Das, wife of Late Prof. Das spoke on the occasion after lighting the lamp and floral tributes to Late Prof. B.M Das. Dr. Nirada Devi, principal of Cotton College and President of the trust were the chief guests for the occasion. Guest speaker Prof. Bapukan Choudhury delivered a very interesting speech on “Biology of Culture”. Mrs. Hridayananda Das assistant Prof. Of the Dept. introduced the speaker to the audience. Finally, the occasion ended with a vote of thanks from Dr. Upala Barua, Associate Prof. Of the Dept.
