Cotton College has a Placement Cell, run by a group of senior teachers of the college. A large number of companies conduct campus recruitment drives in the college. The companies that have visited the college campus include State Bank of India, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Tata Consultancy Services, IBM-Daksh Federal Bank, South Indian Bank, HSBC Bank, Wipro Technologies, Infosys, HCL, Reliance Retail Ltd., SBI Life Insurance and Vedanta Aluminium. A good number of students are recruited each year by these companies.

As per the guidelines stated under the XIth plan of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the colleges and universities are required to organize career guidance and counseling programmes for the benefit of the students. Accordingly, Career & Counseling Cell was established sometime during August-September, 2010 in Cotton College from the grant sanctioned vide letter no. F.05-66/2007/(NERO)/6647 dated 21st January, 2010. Before the establishment of the cell, many departments of Cotton College organized counseling programmes on a regular basis. These programmes were conducted by invited external resource persons as well as by in-house faculty.
 

The Career & Counseling Cell is equipped with all the aids or gadgets necessary for conducting a counseling programme or any other presentation. These include i) laptop, ii) LCD projector, iii) white screen, iv) PA system, v) desktop computer and vi) photocopier.

About Counsellor

Mrs. Raina Bhattacharjee had graduated from North Eastern hill University, Shillong in 1986 with Honors in Political Science and did her Post Graduate Certificate in Psychological Counseling from Christian Counseling Center, Vellore, India.

She started her career as a teacher in 1986 at St. Mark’s Convent Delhi, Followed by teaching in Holy Cross School, Silchar, Assam and Donbosco School, Guwahati

Being a Tea Planter’s daughter, (Daughter of Late Girindra Nath Sharma) she joined the Tea Industry of Assam in 1991, working with M/S Duncan’s Tea Ltd, Guwahati covering tea auction at Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC).

Always having an inclination to work for the society at large, she joined the Guwahati based NGO’ North East Network’ working in the field of  ‘Women’s Reproductive Health’ and was sent for an extensive training in Institution Building and Participatory Rural Development’ , conducted by MYRADA Bangalore, in 1996.

From 1997 to 2008 she was in the media world, working with ‘The Times of India’ During that period, in her personal capacity she was also working for the affected family members of Alcoholics and Drug Addicts and their innocent Children. During this period she was fortunate enough to get the honor of bringing the message of the International Fellowship of AI-Anon and co-founded the first Al-Anon group meeting at Guwahati in 1995. Later on she also co-founded other such groups at Shillong and Tezpur. She co-founded the first ever internationals Alateen group at Guwahati in 2005 for the benefit of the children of Alcoholics.

In recognition to this dedicated work, she was honored to be the first Asian, to be invited as the ’Main Luncheon Guest Speaker’ in the 40th Annual Roundup  of the Nevada Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous at Las Vagas, U.S.A in 2006. The CD of my sharing in that platform is now internationally sold and the sale proceeds of the same goes to Alcoholics Anonymous, Nevada.

She wrote articles in Times of India, The Sentinel and The Assam Tribune. She also composes poems and her poems have also been published in magazines.

Marital discord/drug & alcohol abuse (both for the affected as well as the family members)/suicide/depression/work front tension/parenting issues/learning disabilities in children and any other emotional issues concerning children/conflict & crisis management/relationship issues/ empty nest syndrome/loneliness/trauma handline/grief counseling/  for the terminally ill and their care givers/all issues related to the youth(conflict with parents/Authorities/relationship with opposite gender/examination phobia/other fears/low self esteem & any other kind of emotional imbalance.
